Nima Wangdi 

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday declared 11 candidates for the upcoming NA elections.

Namgay Dorji, 34, who has a Master’s Degree in International relations and Diplomacy from Australian National University will contest from Kabji-Talo constituency in Punakha. He worked with foreign ministry for 12 years and was with the Multilateral Department before joining the party.

The former MP, Namgay Wangchuk is the party’s candidate from Lingmu-Toewang constituency in Punakha. He has a Master’s of Public Policy and Management from Murdoch University.

Sonam Tashi stands from Lamgong-Wangchang constituency in Paro. The 33-year old electrical engineer is a graduate of the College of Science and Technology. He contested as a National Council candidate in 2018.

Lhendup Wangdi is contesting from the Bji-Katso-Uesu in Haa. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Gedu College of Business Studies (GCBS). He served as an Assistant Lecturer in GCBS and was running a business in Haa before joining politics.

Kelzang Phuntsho is contesting from the Dewathang-Gomdar constituency in Samdrupjongkhar. He has a Master’s in Business Administration. He is the Chief Operations Officer of Link Unify, an IT company. He worked in the private sector for 16 years.



Ugyen Lama stands from Dophuchen-Tading in Samtse. The 33-year old was a project engineer before he contested in National Council in 2018.

Pemba, who worked for Royal Bhutan Army for 10 years stands from Bongo-Chapcha constituency, Chhukha. He has a Bachelor’s degree from India and also a Diploma in office management. He also contested in 2018 Parliamentary elections.

Lhaba Lhaba will contest from Khatoed-Laya constituency, Gasa. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from GCBS. The 29-year old worked as a procurement officer with the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Paro. Before joining PDP, he was running a restaurant in Thimphu.

Nanong-Shumar candidate is Pema Wangchuk. He has a Master of Legal Studies from the University of Canberra and a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from Australia. He worked in both the government and private sectors for 20 years.

Wamrong candidate is Yeshey Nidup. He has a Master’s in Geological Engineering from University of British Columbia in Canada, a Master of Project Management and a Master of Business Administration from Edith Cowan University in Australia. He was the chief engineer of Phuentsholing Thromde prior to joining the party.



Tshering will recontest from North Thimphu. He has a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communications from Madras University in Chennai. He worked in media, construction, real estate and legislation.

Party officials said that PDP has all 47 candidates now. “Only three are waiting to resign from their jobs.”
