Training: The sixth leadership training for the Scouts Programme at Tencholing was inaugurated by the former Thrimchi Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye.
One hundred and twenty five scouts from across the country participated in the programme, which is held twice a year, in winter and summer, for students of class 10 and 12 respectively.
During the programme, the scouts train to be better leaders in their community, and learn about volunteerism and issues of national interest, besides participating in sports and other team activities.
Scouts from 20 dzongkhags, undergo an exhaustive selection at their schools and dzongkhags.
Committees do the selection based on various criteria, including academic excellence.
Scholarships are awarded to five exceptional participants who have completed class 12 every year.
The first Scout Leadership programme was held in 2013, and was initiated upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King.
The programme is held at Tencholing, Wangduephodrang, and coordinated by the Office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon and Department of Youth and Sports, of the Ministry of Education for a duration of three weeks.
