Thimphu police detained a 16-year-old student of a school in Thimphu for allegedly murdering a 27-year-old man in Chamgang on the evening of July 17.

The officer-in-command (OC) of Thimphu police, Major Wangdi, said that police were informed about the incident at 7:48pm following which they visited the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH). “The victim was in critical condition then and an hour later, he was declared dead.”

He said, the initial report stated that around 5:30pm, there was a stabbing incident outside a shop near Chamgang school and that the residents had already evacuated the victim to the hospital.

The OC said that police went to the crime scene and arrested the suspect. They have also seized the weapon.

Preliminary findings reveal that the suspect and the deceased had some differences in 2016. On July 17, when the suspect saw the deceased playing carom outside a shop, he had gone home, brought a knife and stabbed the deceased on the right scapular region.

It was learnt that the victim died of excessive bleeding as the lungs were injured.

The deceased is from Pemagatshel.
