A mother and her daughter were instantly killed when the car they were travelling veered off 150 metres below the road at Dashiding Junction in Lobesa yesterday morning.
The vehicle which was carrying four people, including the driver, was transporting vegetables from Dagana to Thimphu.
One of the four passengers, an 81-year-old woman, was discovered floating lifeless in the irrigation drain beneath the road, while her 55-year-old daughter was found dead in the front seat.
The driver was taken to Wangdue Hospital along with his wife. The duo was referred to JDWNRH in Thimphu.
The driver had contacted his sister from the accident site, who then called the Dagana traffic police, after which the incident was reported to the Lobesa Community Police Centre.
Both the deceased were farmers from Larjab Gewog in Dagana.
According to the police inquiry, there were five vehicles transporting vegetables from Dagana to Thimphu during the time of the accident.
The most likely reason for the collision, according to the police, was sleep-driving, and neither the driver nor his wife was in a state to provide a statement.
The deceased’s 55-year-old son, who had travelled from Thimphu, received the bodies.
