A 24-year-old man died on impact when a Mahindra Bolero he was driving veered off the road near Tashithang in Gasa towards Punakha on March 18.

Police said the vehicle fell about 150 metres below the road.

The deceased, a VTI (vocational training institute) graduate succumbed to head injuries while his two friends, both in their 20s, are currently admitted at the national referral hospital in Thimphu.

According to police, they were referred to the Thimphu the same evening. While the VTI graduate is in stable condition, the engineer is in Intensive Care Unit.

A CT scan was conducted on the engineer on March 18. “No major brain injury was found. The reason for the loss of consciousness could be because of the external force such as a blow or jolt to the head during the accident which could have caused the brain to move inside the skull,” a health official said.

Police suspect that the driver could have fallen asleep.
