Diplomacy: Bhutan’s ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Tshewang Chophel Dorji, on November 18 presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Htin Kyaw, at a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, according to a foreign affairs ministry press release.
Following the ceremony and calling on the President, Ambassador Tshewang C Dorji conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The King and Prime Minister to the President.
The President congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and expressed his hope that the existing relations between the two countries will be further enhanced during the ambassador’s tenure. The ambassador in return expressed his commitment to actively strengthen relations between the two countries.
Tshewang C Dorji also called on the state counsellor and foreign affairs minister, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and other senior government officials there. The ambassador thanked the government of Myanmar for its support in the area of health services by having deputed doctors to Bhutan.
Both sides also discussed opportunities to expand co-operation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, health, energy and culture.
The two countries established formal diplomatic relations in February 2012. Tshewang C Dorji is the second ambassador to be accreditated to Myanmar.
