Ngultrum slides to record low of Nu 95 against US Dollar

Bhutan’s currency, Ngultrum, has slipped to a record low against the US dollar, reaching Nu 95 for the first time as of yesterday. The depreciation is attributed to rising crude oil import costs, persistent trade deficits, global capital outflows, and Bhutan’s structural dependence on the Indian rupee, which transmits global currency pressures directly into the domestic economy.
