Event: Indian ambassador Jaideep Sarkar awarded prizes and certificates to the participants of the week-long art workshop and painting competition themed “Spiritual and cultural linkage between Bhutan and India” yesterday at the Nehru- Wangchuck Cultural Centre.

Around 20 participants from each dzongkhag took part in the competition.

Pema Gyeltshen from Zhemgang took away the Nu 31,000 cash prize followed by Salil Bishwa from Chukha and Dawa Yangchen from Trashigang with Ngultrum 25,000 and 21,000 respectively.

The programme was initiated to encourage the youth to engage in meaningful and fruitful activities, besides demonstration of individual work and to further enhance their skills. Besides Art competition, participants also carried out cultural activities like yoga and music classes.

“Art is all about expression, human creative skills and imaginations,” said Pema Gyeltshen who won the first price.

During the week-long programme, participants also received lectures on arts and painting by renowned artists from Bhutan and India.

“It’s an opportunity to meet and interact with the artists and learn from their experiences and I have gained a lot of skills,” said Dawa Yangchen from Trashigang, who stood third.
