Dialogue: More than 55 Australia Awards scholarship alumni attended the first ever Alumni Professional Networking Event conducted by the Australia Awards –  Bhutan program in Thimphu yesterday.

It was to activate and foster linkage between Australia Awards alumni and individuals working for people with disabilities or are involved in the administration of their care, or policy makers.

Among the panelists was a mother who shared the challenges of bringing up a child with a disability, and a CSO representative talked on the role of CSOs in supporting special education development in Bhutan. The panel spoke on issues such as the attitude and perception of Bhutanese teachers towards people with disability, accessibility,  and need to raise awareness in the society. An Australian volunteer shared her experience of working with people with special needs in another country.
