Event: The Bangladeshi embassy in Bhutan observed the Victory Day of Bangladesh at the chancery in Thimphu yesterday.

The day began with the ceremonial hosting of the Bangladeshi national flag by the ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan, Jishnu Roy Choudhary. A meeting was also held where the significance of the day was highlighted including a deliberation on the history of the country and the War of Liberation.

According to a press release from the embassy, the ambassador paid his respects to the founding leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who spearheaded the independence movement and achieved independence on December 16, 1971.

The ambassador also thanked the Bhutanese government for its recognition and support for independent Bangladesh, states the press release. A special prayer for the martyrs and the prosperity of Bangladesh was also conducted.

In the evening, indoor games and cultural programmes were conducted to observe the day.
