Official from the Bhutanese embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the health ministry received the first consignment of essential medicines weighing 35 metric tons from the Government of Bangladesh at the Burimari Land Port on September 27.

The remaining consignments will be delivered in the same manner in two phases in October and November this year, a press release from the Bhutanese embassy in Dhaka states.

A symbolic handing-over ceremony of the medicines took place on July 23 in Dhaka between Bhutanese ambassador Sonam T Rabgye and the minister for health minister and family welfare, Mohammed Nasim.

A total of 258 types of essential medicines will be delivered to Bhutan by the end of the year, which was committed by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her state visit to Bhutan in April 2017.

“This project is yet another example of the very close ties of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Bhutan,” the press release states.
