Diplomacy: Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met the state minister for the Department of Post and Telecommunication of Bangladesh, Begum Tarana Halim, at the Gyelyong Tshogkhang this morning.
Welcoming the state minister to Bhutan, Lyonchoen said that she is a role model for women empowerment and poverty alleviation.
Conveying the best wishes of the President, Prime Minister and people of Bangladesh, the state minister said that Bhutan is a part of Bangladesh’s history and that the students there read about Bhutan in their history books. “Bhutan was the first country to extend friendship and recognise Bangladesh’s independence,” she added.
The state minister said that she “admires and looks up to His Majesty The King” and the fact that His Majesty is “down to earth is heart touching” she added.
Referring to the damages caused by the recent monsoon, the state minister said that she was “amazed at how His Majesty The King and the Prime Minister both rushed and managed the situation.” To this, Lyonchoen said that we are “blessed with the leadership of His Majesty The King”
Lyonchoen and the state minister discussed a wide range of subject matters including economy, hydropower, Information Technology, trade, tourism, aviation and mining.
