State visit: At the invitation of His Majesty The King, President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid, will arrive in the countryon July 1 on a four-day state visit, according to a foreign affairs press release.

This is the first visit to Bhutan by the President of Bangladesh.

During the visit, the President will receive an audience with His Majesty The King and His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and foreign minister Damcho Dorji will call on the President of Bangladesh to exchange views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. While in Bhutan, the President will also address a joint session of Parliament.

The National Assembly Speaker Jigme Zangpo, and National Council Chairperson Sonam Kinga, will also call on the President.

Bhutan and Bangladesh have traditionally enjoyed very close and friendly relations.

The first visit to Bhutan by President Abdul Hamid will contribute towards strengthening the friendship, cooperation and understanding between the leaders and the peoples of the two countries, the press release stated.
