Police in Haa arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly breaking in the Bhutan Development Bank Limited (BDBL) branch office in Rangtse, Haa, on June 5.

The BDBL’s branch in-charge was accused of robbing more than Nu 4.6 million (M) from the branch’s safe  that night.

It was learnt that on the night of June 4, a health worker in Sangbaykha, after finding the BDBL branch office in Sangbaykha open, informed the Sangbaykha BDBL branch office in-charge. The in-charge was out of station then.

The BDBL’s Sangbaykha branch office in-charge informed the Rangtse branch office in-charge to check the office.

It was learnt that the suspect couldn’t open the safe at the Sangbaykha branch office that night.

The next day, the Rangtse branch office in-charge reported to police that someone broke the safe in his office and stole the cash.

It was learnt that police narrowed the branch office in-charge as the suspect and that he has confessed to the crime.

It is, however, not known if the Rangtse branch office in-charge was involved in trying to break into the Sangbaykha office.
