Football: Bhutan’s Under-14 girls national team defeated Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in their first game at the Almosy Academy Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, yesterday.

Midfielder Sonam Choden’s penalty shot 12 minutes into the game gave Bhutan an early lead. Striker Chimi Wangmo scored the second.

Kyrgyzstan brought the deficit down to just a goal from striker Ayana Kemelbaeva’s volley in the second half of the game.

The team is taking part in the six-day South and Central AFC Under-14 Girls Regional Championship.

Bhutan is placed in Group A with Iran, Kyrgyzstan and the host Tajikistan.

Bhutan will play Iran on April 28 at the Aviator Stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan at 5pm BST.

A total of seven teams are taking part in the tournament.
