His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen offered 1,000 butter lamps in memory of the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, at the Kuenrey of Trashichhodzong on July 9 morning. 

The Cabinet, Members of Parliament, senior government officials and foreign dignitaries attended the butter lamp and prayer ceremony.




Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering, officials and local leaders offered prayers and butter lamps, as the nation observed the mourning for the former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Lhuentse dzong, Ugyen Dongag Yoeselchoeling Monastery at Takila and Ngunmaling Monastery in the dzongkhag.    

As a mark of respect for the former prime minister who passed away on July 8, it was declared a national mourning today with all institutions flying National Flags at half-mast.




Writing to the Prime Minister of Japan,  Kishida Fumio soon after the tragic news, Lyonchhen said former PM Abe will always be remembered as a good friend of Bhutan and a great leader.
