The first Bhutan Thailand Festival begins today in Thimphu at the Youth Development Fund Multipurpose Hall to celebrate the continued friendship, shared common spiritual heritage and growing areas of development cooperation between the two Kingdoms, a press release from the foreign ministry states.

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, General Tanasak Patimapragorn will visit Bhutan from June 8 – 11 June for the festival. Minister for Tourism and Sports, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Vice Minister for Culture, Cheweerat Kasetsoontorn and officials from Thailand are accompanying the Deputy Prime Minister. This is the second visit to Bhutan by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.

During the festival, various exhibitions will be held to showcase the excellent relations between the two Kingdoms and areas of development cooperation. According to the press release, exhibitions include a Tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand – a photo exhibition, Thai private medical hospitals, agricultural products, cultural performances, Thai boxing, traditional cuisines, silk products from the two countries and free medical check-up by doctors from Thailand at the festival venue. The medical check-ups will be conducted for general, cancer, cardio, ENT, dental and medical counseling.

During the festival, agencies from the two kingdoms will also sign Memorandum of Understanding(s) in the field of tourism and sports.

The festival, which ends on June11, is open to public. They can visit the exhibition stalls and avail free medical check-up at the festival venue, the press release stated.

Bhutan and Thailand share cordial relations marked with tremendous goodwill. Bhutan and Thailand established formal diplomatic relations in 1989.
