A group of 12 Bhutanese teenage baseball and softball players are in the United States to participate in a cultural exchange programme centred around America’s beloved pasttime-baseball.
Invited by the Hudson Valley Renegades, a High-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Bhutanese team will get to watch live baseball games at the Renegades’ home field and also engage with players and participate in various activities designed to deepen their understanding of the game.
Baseball as a sport has been steadily gaining popularity in Bhutan.
For the teenagers, this is their first time travelling outside the country.
The Hudson Valley Renegades has planned a series of activities to ensure that the young Bhutanese team make the most of their time in the United States. They will explore the Hudson Valley, participate in local community events, and interact with baseball players fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other’s cultures.
The General Manager of the Hudson Valley Renegades, Zach Betkowski, said that through this exchange programme, they were creating lifelong memories for the Bhutanese teenagers as well providing awareness to the local and the global community of baseball.
“Our efforts to grow the game of baseball have been very successful thus far, and we look forward to a long term partnership between the Hudson Valley Renegades and the Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association,” Zach Betkowski said.
