Any Bhutanese, entering or exiting the country from September 23 will be required to produce citizenship identity card or passport and complete immigration formalities at all ports of entry and exit.

According to public notification from the immigration department Bhutanese exiting or entering the country after visiting towns across the border for any purpose or duration will require documents.




Inter-dzongkhag travel that requires travelling through India will be facilitated with (CPMS) check post management system, according to the notice.

It stated that other residents of the country shall be required to complete immigration formalities at all land ports of entry and exit on the basis of the permit that the immigration department or civil registration and census department has issued. “The travel of foreigners will continue to be facilitated in accordance with the existing immigration requirement and formalities.”

Regional immigration office in Samdrupjongkhar also issued a notification on September 12.




It stated that the foreigners employed as day workers or process workers will be required to undergo mandatory health screening and drug test. Then only the work permit may be issued starting September 23.

The notice stated that the employers have to ensure that the foreign workers undergo health screening and drug test once every three months.

The department officials were not available for comments.
