Tshering Namgyal | Mongar

The contractor blacktopping the Jarungkhashor-Trailing road in Mongar missed the second deadline to complete the work.

Mongar dzongkhag has given a six months time extension to the contractor from October 2021 to April this year.

Issup Construction was awarded the work for 16 months in June 2020.

The construction company’s project manager, Cheden, said most of the 2.8kms internal roads in the town development package are completed, they have to insert hume pipes.

He said the work delayed because there was a change in the plan of drainage outlet.

It was learnt that the contractor was supposed to complete the work before the inauguration of the Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition earlier this month.

Cheden, however, said blacktopping work would begin only after the completion of drainage system. “Footpath construction might prolong until June and July and might take longer if monsoon hampers.”

Meanwhile, Mongar town residents are questioning the quality of newly completed blacktopping work from Jarungkhashor area to the automobile workshop area where pebbles were already out on the surface in some stretches.

A resident, Jurmey, said they are monitoring discreetly and want to see if the dzongkhag would make the contractor redo the work. “We want infrastructure with quality.”
