Transaction: B-Mobile users who also maintain account with the Bhutan National Bank (BNB) can now pay electricity bills through their cellphones using B-Wallet service.

Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of BNB, Bhutan Telecom (BT), and Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) launched BPC bill payment through B-Wallet with BNB at Le Meridien in Thimphu yesterday.

The service users should know BPC consumer number to make the payment.

BPC’s CEO, Gem Tshering, said that the organization has been facing issues while collecting bills from consumers.

“The service will allow consumers to pay electricity bill for self and others without having to visit BPC cash counters,” Gem Tshering said. However, reliability of the service provider is important, he added.

BT’s CEO, Tshewang Gyeltshen, said that reliability is important and that BT will work hard to improve the service. “We want to make B-Wallet service simple and user friendly.”

The service doesn’t need Internet connection and it is available 24/7. It also allows users pay fixed-line bills and to recharge broadband balance.

Service users can avail of registration form from the BT and BNB customer service counters. It can also be downloaded from their websites. Once registered, service users will receive SMS with M-pass that can be changed and kept confidential.

To avail of B-Wallet service, service users should dial *111#, enter the M-Pass and select the number for the services and continue.

The B-Wallet service was launched in 2012. The service allows B-mobile users to top-up their phone balance and to transfer money from one account to another.

BNB’s CEO Kipchu Tshering said that the bill payment service will not only benefit the three organizations but also clients.

Currently, some 36,000 customers have registered for B-Wallet service.
