Bank of Bhutan (BOB) on January 27 launched Dedicated Senior Citizen Priority Counter that will cater specifically to citizens aged 60 and above.

The counter will provide services such as withdrawal and deposit, opening new accounts, and INR remittance. However, the counter will not provide foreign exchange services.

Meanwhile, to identify a senior citizen, BOB will also issue a senior citizen identification card from BOB branch offices.

According to a press release issued by BOB, a standard notification at the counter will specify the counter for senior citizens. “When the counter is not catering to senior citizen, the counter will provide regular services to other clients for optimum use of human resources as well as to provide fast services to other clients.”

The launch was part of the bank’s 50th anniversary celebration.

“The counter is pursuance of our national developmental philosophy of Gross National Happiness as well as in keeping with the Bhutanese tradition and culture of respecting the elders in our family and society,” the press release stated.
