Update: The body of a 46-year-old Indian labourer was found near the Pinchinna check post in Samdrupjongkhar on April 6.

The deceased is believed to have died from dehydration and exhaustion.

The check post is 4km from Samdrupjongkhar town. The body had mostly decomposed and the face was not recognisable.

The deceased along with three friends had fled from Chaskar gewog in Mongar on March 27. The construction firm filed a police complaint on the same day, after which police informed their counterparts in India.

They were working in a private construction firm in the gewog.

They decided to flee, as they could not adapt to the climate, according to his friends. They travelled on foot whenever they had to cross a checkpoint.

Police said the deceased was exhausted and dehydrated when they reached the Pinchinna check post. His friends told police that the deceased suddenly collapsed and died.

“His friends out of fear left the body to escape,” a police spokesperson said.

Police ruled out foul play and have handed over the body to the family.
