Thimphu court today convicted Sandeep Rai, one of the directors of Bhutan Power Corporation Ltd, for sexually harassing his subordinate and sentenced him to 8 months in prison. 

The court also ordered him to pay Nu 45,000 as compensation to the victim. 




𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 

A female staff of BPC filed a complaint to the management against Sandeep Rai for behaving inappropriately and harassing her around 2am on September 15 last year. The incident occurred when the victim and another female colleague were attending to their night shift duty at the company’s customer care office.

The victim formally filed a written complaint on September 21.

BPC management forwarded the case to the police on October 1 based on the strong prima facie evidence submitted by the corporation’s inquiry committee on September 29.




Sandeep Rai was suspended from work on September 24.
