Chencho Dema | Punakha

After the party received approval from the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) on January 11, Bhutan Tendrel Party (BTP) began its first familiarisation tour from Punakha yesterday.

The party will introduce candidates for Lingmukha-Toedwang and Khatoed-Laya constituencies tomorrow along with the party’s two vice presidents.

The party’s president, Dasho Pema Chhewang, introduced the group, outlined the party’s goals, and explained why the party decided on the name “Bhutan Tendrel Party” and its logo.

Deki Yangzo, 50, from Kabjisa, said she was confused with the names of the parties. “I can only identify them from their logo.”

For Tshewang Lham, 60, all the political parties look and sound the same. “Only party presidents are recognizable.”

Nalay Pem from Samdingkha said she was attending such a forum for the first time. “I do not know much about the political parties, their candidates, and what separates one party from the other.”

The party will continue to announce and introduce the candidates at the familiarisation tours. The party will travel to Zhemgang after Gasa.

There are five registered political parties for the 2023 National Assembly election.
