Police in Bumthang arrested a 24-year-old man for alleged molestation of a 14-year-old student on November 11.

The incident, according to police, happened when the student was at home, as schools were closed because of the pandemic.

When the school reopened, teachers heard about the girl having an affair with the man but they later learnt that the girl was molested.

The school management then informed dzongkhag legal officer, who is also the focal of National Commission for Women and Child and RENEW’s volunteer. He reported teh case to the police.

Police said that it is still not known when the incident had occurred but the suspect has confessed that he teased her but not attempted to rape her.

Police said that although the girl had complained to her mother, the mother informed the suspect’s brother and did not complain to anyone.
