Despite limited playtime, Chencho Gyeltshen has been critical for RoundGlass Punjab FC’s progress in the ongoing Hero I-League in India.

Chencho Gyeltshen is fielded mostly in the second half, but he makes his presence worthy either through a goal, crucial assists or some tactical interceptions.

Chencho’s solo effort during the game against Aizawl FC helped RoundGlass Punjab FC eke out a narrow win on February 13 in Aizawl.

The Bhutanese international striker was phenomenal in that match.  The game headed for a goalless draw.  However, Chencho in the 52nd minute dribbled into the box beating all four defenders and found the right side of the net with his left foot.

RoundGlass Punjab FC’s win against Aizawl FC was crucial as it has kept the team in the title race against Sreenidi Deccan FC, a Hyderabad-based team.

Chencho’s goal against Aizawl FC was one of the best so far in the I-League. Of the seven matches played as of yesterday, Chencho scored two goals. He also made two crucial assists. The first goal of the season was against Mumbai Kenkre FC on February 2.

Fans say that Chencho could perform even better if he is given adequate playtime.

Chencho signed a season-long contract with the RoundGlass Punjab FC last month.

RoundGlass Punjab FC are in second place behind Sreenidi Deccan FC as of yesterday. Both teams acquired 37 points from 17 games each but Sreenidi Deccan FC are at the top of the table with a four-goal lead.

Gokulam Kerala FC are in third place with 27 points from 17 games.

Chencho’s next game is against his former club Neroca FC on February 20. Twelve teams are competing in the league.
