Coach Chencho Dorji’s Sudeva Delhi FC grabbed his second win of the Hero-I League humbling Chennai City FC 4-0 at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on February 3.

Winning against Chennai City was a notable comeback for Sudeva in the last six games. Sudeva now stands in second with four points behind the table leaders, Churchill Brothers.

Sudeva recorded a comfortable win with Naocha Singh’s quick brace in the first ten minutes of the game. Naorem Mahesh Singh and Manvir Singh added another two in the second half.

In the sixth minute, midfielder Naocha Singh found the net from inside the box following a perfect cross from Naorem Mahesh.  Four minutes later, Kean Lewis controlled the ball and assisted Naocha Singh, who found the net from the angle. The first half ended 2-0 in Sudeva’s favour.

In 51st minute, midfielder Naorem Mahesh Singh beat the Chennai defenders with his sheer pace and slotted the ball with his left foot to put his team ahead 3-0.  The 2018 I-league champions conceded the fourth goal in the 71st minute when striker Manvir Singh’s curling shot from intimate range past the goalie.

Despite a 50-50 ball possession, Chennai City could not take advantage of their chances due to lack of coordination that day. After a thrashing from Sudeva, Chennai City moved to the relegation zone with only six points out of five games.

Chencho Dorji said that Sudeva had tried in the past few matches to score a goal in the match’s first quarter. “We couldn’t do that, but we worked on the lapses for a couple of days and proved it against Chennai City.”

“Chennai City was able to keep the ball. Unfortunately, they could not score the goal out of few chances they had,” said Chencho Dorji.

Sudeva will face Aizawl FC on February 14.
