Relations: Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay met the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to India, Luo Zhaohui, yesterday.

The ambassador is in the country on a five-day visit from January 21-25.

Lyonchoen Tshering Tobgay commended China’s global role in terms of technology and its leadership in environment, highlighting the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund where China and the United Nations signed an agreement to cover a multi-year contribution of USD 200 million from China in the next 10 years.

Ambassador Luo Zhaohui applauded Bhutan over the progress the country has made with the philosophy of Gross National Happiness and said that China also recognises the importance of the development philosophy.

Meanwhile, the Xinjiang Art Theatre Song and Dance Troupe performed songs, dances and acrobatics on January 22 and 23 in Thimphu.

The ambassador leaves the country tomorrow.
