Luana: For the first time in its history, the Lunana primary school will start their academic session two months early. Usually the school starts only in the third week of June because Lunana remains inaccessible due to snow.

This breakthrough was possible because of the helicopter service that helped airlift seven teachers and a cook from Paro and Punakha to the school, yesterday.

The Prime Minster, during his visit to Lunana in October, last year, had committed to provide air transport for teachers to begin the academic sessions in Lunana early.

“This not only demonstrates government’s highest level of commitment to the education but also highlight their policy of providing equal opportunity to everyone,” the dzongkhag’s social media page read.

The Lunana Primary School in Lhedi has 38 students.
