In Gasa yesterday, it was a close contest between People’s Democratic Party and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa.

The dzongkhag has two constituencies – Khatoed-Laya and Khamed-Lunana.

PDP won majority of the postal ballot votes from both the constituencies.

Of the total 115 votes from Khatoed-Laya, PDP won 63 postal ballot votes, followed by DNT (31). BKP secured 11 and DPT 10.

Eighteen registered postal voters did not cast their vote. Four ballots were rejected during Envelope-A segregation.

From Khamed-Lunana, PDP won 65 postal ballots, followed by DNT winning (43).  BKP won 17 votes and DPT 10.

Six postal ballots were rejected. The constituency had 168 registered postal ballot voters.

The EVM votes played a vital in DNT’s victory in Khatoed-Laya. The party secured 376 votes from the EVM. PDP followed with 215. DPT won 75 votes and BKP 39.

More than 800 voters of the total 1,023 from Khatoed-Laya cast their vote in four polling stations and through postal ballot facilitation booths.

PDP won majority votes from both EVM and Postal ballots in Khamed-Lunana constituency. The party secured 274 EVM votes, followed by DNT with 155. BKP won 48 votes and DPT won 97.

The dzongkhag had the least number of voters –2,064.

Except for DNT candidate Yeshey Dem of Khamed-Lunana, all party candidates could cast their vote in their respective polling stations.

Yeshey Dem could not take a flight from Lunana after she went for common forum and door-to-door campaign in Lunana on September 8. She was the lone female candidate from the constituency.

Voting time in Khamed-Lunana was extended for some hours after EVM suffered technical breakdown.

More than 1,200 voters out of 1,814 registered voters cast their votes in Gasa yesterday.
