Thromde: Thromde election’s common forum for Phuentsholing Maed yesterday saw only five people show up.

Former Thrompon Tsheten Dorji, who is standing for election, said Phuentsholing is like a little child.

“Choose your thrompon wisely,” he urged the voters. “It is critical that you understand this.”

Tsheten Dorji, who is from Phuentsholing Maed, said that the town needs an experienced hand to guide its development activities.

If elected, he would work to bring 24-hour water supply to the core town, said the 65-year-old former Thrompon.

At Phuentsholing Toed’s common forum Saturday, Tsheten Dorji shared with people the picture of development activities that happened under his guidance like road connectivity, footpath and bridge contruction.

Contestant from Neydra constituency, Uttar Kumar Rai, said many quarters of the town need urgent attention. That, he said, is the reason why he decided to contest in the election.

The 34-year-old stressed on the need to build more road networks. “If there is road connectivity, development activities will follow.”  He added that vital projects like housing development will not happen if the town does not have strong road networks.

Phuentsholing has three thuemi candidates. Maed’s former tshogpa Karma Chen is contesting for the post. As a tshogpa, the 47-year-old said he proposed activities to clean the town. He said he helped people reconstruct their homes when windstorm struck Phuentsholing in April last year.

Karma Chen said that he also initiated the plan to construct multilevel car parking, adding that budget has now been secured for the construction of the parking. “Structural and electrical drawings have been completed.”

The thuemi hopeful said he will take people’s voice to the Parliament through the Dzongkhag Tshogdu.

Bimal Kumar Ghalley, 30-year-old for contract teacher, is a contestant from Pekharzhing. Twenty-eight-year-old Renuka Rai from Pasakha is the youngest contestant.

Sharmila Limbu, 32, who served as Toed Tshogpa for last five yeras, is contesting again. Thirty-two-year-old Mani Kumar Rai is also contesting for the post.

Phuentsholing Maed does not have tshogpa candidate.

Phuentsholing thromde has 776 voters.
