Rescue: Nado, a 32-year-old cop from Wangdue saved a 15-year-old boy from drowning in the Thimchu on April 9.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when Nado assumed his two-hour post near Tashichhodzong in Thimphu.

Nado said that he was near the bridge located between Tashichhodzong and the crematorium, when the boy who was on the other side of the river jumped into the river.

Two women walking before Nado screamed and alerted him that a boy had jumped into the river.

Nado said he rushed to the river. “I removed my shoes and jumped into the river.” Nado swam to the boy and pulled him to the riverbank.

The boy was later taken to the hospital and handed over to his relatives.

“It was lucky that it did not rain and the river was not swollen,” Nado said.
