The College of Science and Technology (CST) has suspended an assistant professor for allegedly sexually harassing students at the college.

He was suspended after the case was forwarded to the police recently.

CST president Cheki Dorji said that the lecturer was suspended after the case was forwarded to the police by the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB).

“As per our sexual harassment protocol, there is a regulation that states that he has to be suspended during the investigation,” he said. “He cannot stay within the compound.”

The president said about nine female students complained about the alleged molestation to the “access person” of the college’s counselling and support group.

“Students reported the case to the access person,” he said.

The complaint was then lodged on December 3 to the committee.

Since the case is beyond the college authority, CST referred it to the RUB administration, who then forwarded it to the police.

“At present, we cannot provide details,” Cheki Dorji said, adding that everything would become clear in the due course of time.

The assistant professor has been with the college for around 30 years.
