The National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) issued a public notification yesterday stating that the cyclonic storm “AMPHAN” which started on May 16 at the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman sea could lead to a very severe cyclonic storm.

NCHM stated that it was likely to move northwards and further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 12 hours (May 17-18) and further move northwards across the northwest Bay of Bengal and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts on May 20.

As per the NCHM, moderate to heavy rain is likely over the southern and eastern parts of Bhutan during the next 72 hours (May 18-20) due to this influence.  “Rest of the places can expect light to moderate rain.”

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty wind can be expected in some parts of the country during the same period.
