After facing cement shortages for a few months, the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project has been receiving enough supply from the Dungsam Cement Corporation limited (DCCL) this month.

The two companies working for the Trongsa-based project – Jaiprakash Associates and Gammon – said they have been receiving excess supply of cement.

On an average, the project requires about 400 to 500MT of cement a day, according to officials.

Project’s managing director, AK Mishra, said that the demand would reduce with the project nearing completion.

“The project is nearing completion. So naturally, we need less cement now,” he said.

DCCL, a subsidiary company of the Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), supplies cement to the project.

The project had complained about inadequate supply of cement last month. The project authority earlier said the short supply of cement was one of the causes of delay in the completion of the project.

The project authority had extended the commissioning date of the 720-megawatt project from June to September 2018.

The project authority now says that it will commission the project by November.

According to the details provided by project officials, while the cement requirement for April was 13,500 metric tonnes (MT), the project claims that it received only 4,004MT, only 30 percent of its requirement.

As of May 31 this year, 96.5 percent of the works were completed, including the transmission lines.

The project will generate 3B units of energy in a year.

The project will transmit Tansibji Hydropower Project’s 118 MW power to Alipurduar Sub-station, West Bengal.
