The club has to date completed 25 charitable events across the country

Charity: To commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Bhutan Dragons Motorcycle Club (BDMC) launched the Delivery ‘K4’ Bhutan initiative yesterday.

According to the press release from the club, the initiative was launched with an objective to collect all types of goods from Thimphu and Phuentsholing to distribute it to the needy and the under-privileged people across the country.

“Not everyone is as fortunate as the ones who live in the city,” the club’s president Thinley Wangchuk Dorji said. “We want to do something for them in our own little ways.”

The initiative will be a continuous collection drive with no fixed time frame, he said. Collections will be done on weekends and government holidays throughout the year. The motto of the initiative is “In reaching out, we reach within.”

BDMC is charity club formed on 17 October, 2008. The club currently has 37 regular members, 12 honorary members and eight prospect riders. One of the members, Kelly Dorji, said, BDMC is about biking enthusiasts dedicated to preserving the sanctity of the past, encapsulating the present and envisaging the need of the future.

The club organises a minimum of four charity rides a year covering mainly the far-flung and remote corners of the country and has delivered among others, birth control measures, food supplies, refurbished wearables like shoes and clothes. They also distributed survival tools, books, medical equipment and writing and drawing materials.

The club’s 26th charity ride, the first in 2015 to Rukha in Wangduephodrang zooms off on 26 January.
