Samtse hospital reported 21 dengue fever cases as of yesterday since the first positive case was detected on June 23, health officials said.

Officials also claimed that relevant agencies are working towards controlling the outbreak.

The assistant health officer in Samtse, Thinley Choden, said control measures have been taken as per the health ministry guidelines.

She also said they are creating awareness, vector surveillance, thermal fogging, and destruction of breeding sites. “We are continuing fever and vector surveillance too.”

Thinley Choden said there is no severe complication of cases and casualties as of now.

Meanwhile, the hospital is testing all patients suspected of dengue or malaria.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms such as a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and skin rash are seen in three to 14 days after infection.
