In little over four years, the government spent more than Nu 1 billion for the development of areas in Thimphu and the thromde.

This is the maximum budget allocated so far by the present government, said Human Settlement Minister Dorji Choden.

This was in response to North Thimphu MP Tshering’s question about the delay in black topping of roads in Hejo, Jungshina, Pamtsho, and Samteling.

North Thimphu MP Tshering said that bad roads caused inconveniences to the residents, especially during monsoon season.  “Although government agreed to provide immediate assistance, the condition of the roads has remained the same.”

Lyonpo Dorji Choden said that Hejo, Pamtsho Samteling, and Jungshina fall under Thimphu Thromde. “We wanted to provide good urban infrastructure and facilities. The areas will undergo improved infrastructure change. Construction of footpaths, proper sewer networks, and streetlights along the roads after blacktopping the roads would be a waste of resource. Constructions projects would spoil the blacktop.”

The government allocated more than Nu 300 million for the construction of urban infrastructure in these places. It includes blacktopping project for a 7-kilometre road, construction of five-kilometre sewer network, building of ducts, drains, a 10-kilometre footpath, and installation of streetlights.

The construction of urban infrastructures in Hejo, Jungshina, Pamtsho, and Samteling is expected to be completed by March next year.
