Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa announced three candidates from Lhuentse, Samtse, and Zhemgang, yesterday to contest for fourth parliamentary elections later this year.

The party declared Sonam Dargay from Menbi-Tsenkhar constituency of Lhuentse. He is from Ladrong under Jarey Gewog. The 41-year-old has a bachelor’s degree in IT from JIIT University, India. 

He worked as Chief Executive Officer, Chief ICT Consultant and Managing Proprietor for Retna InfoTech Pvt. Ltd and its training consultancy firm since 2015.

Earlier, he was the General Manager for five years at the proposed project office of Jampeling Institute of Science and Technology. Concurrently, he also worked as project manager for a construction firm in Gelephu which engaged in building infrastructure for school and thromde office as well as developing highways and undertaking river-protection works. 

He also taught IT at Kuendrup Higher Secondary School in 2009 and served as Adjunct ICT Faculty at Gedu College in 2021.

The party also declared Ngawang Nidup, 32, from Phuntshopelri constituency of Samtse.

He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Lovely Professional University, India. He has bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Royal Thimphu College.

He is an entrepreneur committed to supporting start-ups and business initiatives in his community. He also contested the National Council elections in 2018. He is the replacement of current MP Ganesh Ghimiray of Phuntshopelri constituency.

The MP Ganesh Ghimiray said that he nominated Ngawang Nidup as his replacement since he doesn’t want to re-contest again. “I have another plan and want to continue my own business.” 

Sonam Leki will represent Bardo-Trong constituency of Zhemgang once again. The 43-year-old graduated from Samtse College of Education in 2004 with a Bachelor of Education. 

He taught at the primary school in Tshaidang, his native village, for a year. He taught for 10 years at Yebilaptsa Middle Secondary School before moving on to Drukgyel Central School in 2017. 

He was the party’s candidate for 2018 elections as well.  He also contested the last two National Council elections.
