The Doongna gewog administrative officer (GAO), a 36-year-old man, who was airlifted on November 14, after he was hit by an arrow, has succumbed to his injuries on November 16 in Thimphu hospital.

The GAO was playing a friendly archery tournament among the gewog staffs. An arrow hit the officer at around 10am, sources said.

Doongna gup Passang said the helicopter lifted him around 11:30am.

“We were just playing a friendly match when the incident happened,” he said, adding that it was an unfortunate moment.

According to sources, the arrow had passed over the head of the person in front of him and struck him on the head.

There were 14 players on the archery ground on the day.

Meanwhile, the GAO has been serving in the gewog since 2013. He graduated in BSc from Sherubtse in 2006 and graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Master of Public Administration in 2019.

The late officer was from Mewang in Thimphu.

He will be cremated tomorrow at the crematorium near Tashichhodzong.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
