A second detailed project report (DPR) for the 1,125-megawatt Dorjilung hydropower project in Mongar will be ready within seven months.

Answering Mongar’s member of parliament (MP) Karma Lhamo’s query on the status of project, Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering said that since the first report was conducted in 2015, a second DPR had to be conducted to understand the current situation, budget, and technologies needed.

“We are also collaborating with the Asian Development Bank and have started new research,” he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the previous report stated the project could be completed with about Nu 74 billion (B).

He said that the project could also be executed tri-laterally with Bangladesh, India, and Bhutan. Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid said during his visit in 2016 that the hydropower sector held ‘greatest potential’ for cooperation between the two countries.

Completing the groundwork for the Dorjilung Hydropower Project by 2023 is one of the pledges that MP Karma Lhamo made during the by-election in June of this year.
