The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) coordinator and the alleged Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) supporter, who were arrested by Phuentsholing police for a social media feud, have bailed out on August 6 after police charged the case to court.

Police have charged the DPT coordinator for harassment and defamation and the alleged DNT coordinator for harassment.

On July 24, the alleged DNT coordinator, a Phuentsholing businessman had filed a complaint with the police against Trashigang’s DPT coordinator. The coordinator was arrested on the evening of July 31 and brought to Phuentsholing the next day.

As the Phuentsholing businessman was invited in a WeChat group called ‘Bartsham-Songphu’ that was allegedly used by DPT supporters, the DPT coordinator had insinuated members of the chat group to batter him and burn his personal vehicle if seen around the villages.

In a voice recording Kuensel availed, the DPT coordinator told ‘Bartsham-Songphu’ members that one of their own group members had invited the businessman, who according to him was a DNT coordinator.

In the recording, the DPT coordinator tells members to carefully see the DNT coordinator’s picture that he sent and warned of his intrusive nature.

As the interrogation ensued, it was found the businessman also had made similar threats to the DPT coordinator. He was arrested on August 2.

Both the parties’ representatives had told Kuensel that what had transpired between the two were at an individual level and nothing to do with the parties.
