Druk Lhayul beat Paro FC in a thrilling five-goal match in the ongoing BFF President Cup in Gyalpoizhing, Mongar yesterday.

The BPL champions Paro FC was taken aback when Druk Lhayul pulled a stunning performance to beat them 3-2. The two teams were initially seen as equally competitive and played slow but ended with physical aggressiveness.

Paro FC maintains the highest goals in the tournament after netting five past Youngster FC goalie in the opening match.

Paro FC gifted the first two goals to Druk Lhayul FC. The own goals had extended Lhayul’s lead to 2-0 in 51 minutes. Paro FC’s captain Kinley Wangchuk scored their first goal in the 54th minute and six minutes later, Yeshi Dorji equalised.

In the dying minutes of the game, substitute Sampa Tshering, who was brought down in the box by defender Kinley, slotted the winning goal for Druk Lhayul from the spot registering their first win in the tournament.  Tenzin Dorji of Druk Lhayul was declared the man of the match.

In the other match, UA FC who settled for a goalless draw with Druk Lhayul FC on January 5, beat a local club, FC Youngster 3-0 yesterday.

UA scored their goals at 22nd, 56th and 90th minutes. The only chance to change the game for FC Youngster was lost when UA goalkeeper Tenzin Dorji saved the spot-kick. However, the local amateur club FC Youngster was lauded for their defence.

FC youngster will face Druk Lhayul in their last match of the tournament.

As of yesterday, in Pool A Ugyen Academy FC and Druk Lhayul FC has four points each, Paro FC has three, and FC Youngster has not recorded any.

Thimphu City FC thrashed Sherubtse FC 6-0 on January 6 and leads Pool B with three points. They will face Transport United FC today.
