Football: Defending champions Druk United FC registered their second win after defeating Drukpol FC 2-0 to take the lead in the Yanmar Thimphu Premier League, yesterday.

A goal from winger Khaidem Vicky, after he dribbled pass two Drukpol defenders and putting the ball in the top right corner, gave Druk United the lead in the 37th minute.

Although a goal down, Drukpol FC had the upper hand in the game physically, dominating united in ball possession throughout the match. But they lacked finishing in the front. In the 80th minute defender Niwas Rana nearly scored an own goal while he was back-passing the ball to goalie Tshering Dhendup. The ball hit the post and went out for a corner kick.

Substitute Kinley Dorji of Druk United had several opportunities in the second half to double their lead but all his attempts missed the target. Finally in the five additional minutes, he headed in the second goal to make the game safe.

Druk United’s head coach Ashok Kumar Burja expected more than a win. “We were expecting more goals. We need to work harder for our next match,” he said.

Druk United is at the top of the table with six points followed by Thimphu City FC and Thimphu FC at four points each, separated by goal difference.

Thimphu FC will take on Dzongrig FC on Tuesday at 6pm.
