Aviation: To commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the national airline Drukair gave away 60 free tickets, yesterday.
The 60 winners were chosen from a pool of 4,791 candidates in a lucky draw conducted at the ticketing counter in Thimphu.
The candidates included all those who have purchased full-fare tickets in Bhutan since November 11.
The winners will receive a free return ticket to any destination of their choice. They will also be able to give away their ticket to relatives or friends.
To ensure transparency, representatives of the Tourism Council of Bhutan, the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators, and a representative of the Druk Holding and Investments, picked out the tickets.
Drukair CEO, Tandin Wangchuk, said that the decision to give away free tickets was made to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
He also pointed out that the media was invited to the event to ensure transparency of the process. He also said that anyone who has purchased a Drukair full-fare ticket from either the Thimphu or Paro office, which could also include Drukair employees, were eligible to win.
Private airline Tashi Air subsidiary Bhutan Airlines also gave away 60 free tickets in October. However, the tickets were reserved only for patients needing to travel to Kolkata for medical treatment.
