Drukpol FC has appealed to the decision of the Bhutan Football Federation regarding the penalty imposed on the team by the disciplinary committee on June 30.

The football club submitted their appeal to the federation on July 4. The team expects the appeal committee of the federation to review its decisions taken by the disciplinary committee.

On June 30, Drukpol FC was suspended from participating in two editions of the federation’s competitions. Four players of the team were fined and banned from playing matches.

The incident took place during the 65th match of Pepsi Thimphu League 2017 at the Changlimithang stadium. Drukpol FC denied resuming the game in the 54th minute after defender Chencho of Thimphu City FC scored a controversial leading goal.

According to Drukpol FC, protests against the decisions made by referees on the pitch are common in the game.

The team, while respecting the decision of the committee said that they were not given a chance to give their views of the incident.  According to the team, the decision was instant and it should have taken more time as the match is recorded online.

They complained that the decisions were taken based on the report and complaint submitted by the referee and match commissioner.

Competition officer Kinley Dorji, who is also a member of the BFF disciplinary committee, said that the committee did not involve both the teams, a procedure that is followed internationally.

He said that the federation’s appeal committee is the next level of a disciplinary committee. Kinley Dorji said it’s the prerogative of the appeal committee to bring change in decisions made if necessary.

The appeal committee will review the decisions taken by the disciplinary committee this week.
