Druk Thuendrel Tshogpa (DTT) introduced Karma Dema as its candidate from Zhemgang in Trashigang yesterday.

The 31-year-old from Ngangla is the candidate for Panbang Constituency in Zhemgang. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature from the College of Language and Culture Studies, Trongsa.

She worked as a businesswoman for the past seven years. It is her first time contesting in elections.

Karma Dema cited the party’s principles and ideology, expertise and experience as significant factors that led her to join the party.

“As a woman, I always wanted to encourage women and youth to take part in the future. This is the right time and age for me to serve my community and the public,” she said.

Karma Dema believed the involvement of young people will bring positive change. She joined politics after her colleague encouraged and supported her.

She is married and has a child. She said that her husband and other family members are supportive of her decision.

With a total of 39 candidates revealed, DTT has six female candidates.

The party is yet to declare two candidates from east, Gangzur-Minjey constituency in Lhuentse and Nganglam constituency in Pemagatshel.
