Coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Zhabdrung Kuchoe, Dudjom Throngdrel, the first of its kind in the country was unfurled for the second time during the annual Yonphula Tshechu in Trashigang yesterday.
The 37-feet-by-53-feet Dudjom Throngdrel reveals the image of Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche, a 19th century, treasure revealer (terton) and his 19 reincarnations.
The unfurling of the throngdrel began with an anointment ceremony performed by Yonphula Rinpoche Jigme Tenzin on the third day of the tshechu.
On the spiritual advise of Yonphula Rinpoche, in 2015 a committee chaired by education minister, Norbu Wangchuk, was formed to develop the Dudjom Throngdrel.
Last year, coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey, His Royal Highness the Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck unfurled the throngdrel for the first time.
Ugyen Donga Chokhorling monastery in Yonphula was built in 1944 by the then Dzongpon Thinley Tobgay. Later it was offered to Lama Karpo, father of the present Yonphula Rinpoche.
Lama Karpo was the first disciple of Dujom Rinpoche in Bhutan.
More than 4,000 people gathered at the monastery to witness the unfurling of the throngdrel. The three-day tshechu ended yesterday.
