Education: Parents who wish to enroll their children in schools in Thimphu thromde can now apply for admission online.

Education minister Mingbo Dukpa, and Lincoln University College’s vice chancellor Dr Amiya Bhaumik launched the E-portal for thromde education services at the Druk school in Thimphu on November 10.

The online Thimphu Thromde education system will provide simplified student admission procedures, student registrations and easy correspondence for parents or anyone seeking admission in thromde schools.

Thrompon Kinlay Dorjee said that last minute rush at the thromde education office and education ministry makes it difficult for officials. “With the new online system in place, there will be no favoritism and the process should be transparent,” the thrompon said. “Parents can check the number of available seats in schools and apply online accordingly.”

Lincoln University College’s senior software developer, Manojit Debnath, said that in future the system will also have details of the schools, information about staffs and number of students in schools, among others.

Manojit Debnath said that the online system would be hassle free and is easy for parents when applying online. “The system will also help reduce the time to check the applications and will also easily connect to the thromde for immediate updates,” he said.

The Lincoln University College, Malaysia solely contributed the E-portal that is presented to the thromde education office as a tribute to the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo. The Lincoln University will support the thromde with the system for five years free of cost.

The E-portal is estimated to cost Nu 8,000,000 in a year.
